Travel Notes: My Ultimate New Jersey Staycation

This is a sponsored post, but all opinions are my own.

Taking a full-on vacation can be hard because it is so time-consuming and expensive. A great way to have a relaxing weekend is by doing a staycation close to home. For me, this means staying in the great state of New Jersey.  There are so many ways to have an amazing staycation here. Below are some of the things I would do to create a fun staycation here in the Garden State.

My staycation would start off by checking into my vacation rental. It’s important to find an experienced real estate agency. My choice is Daniels Realty. Located in the gorgeous Diamond Beach area, Daniels Realty has been the number one real estate agency for over twenty-five years. They have over 200 rentals, which makes choosing a home to fit your needs easier than ever!

After checking into my vacation rental home, I would look at the local spa options in the area and head over to one for a manicure, pedicure and facial. Maybe even a massage, if they could fit me in. This would get my staycation off to a great, relaxing start. After my spa trip, I would grab a healthy lunch and take it to the beach with me. The rest of the afternoon would be sun and sand filled. I would grab a chair and umbrella, a cooler filled with cold drinks and my lunch, sunscreen, a towel and a great book. I cannot think of a more relaxing way to spend an afternoon.

Beauty tip for a day at the beach: Make sure you pack the sunscreen! According to skincancer.org, each year, over 5.4 million cases of non-melanoma skin cancer is treated in more than 3.3 million people. This breaks down to 1 in 5 Americans developing skin cancer and 40-50% of Americans at the age of 65 will have developed skin cancer at least one time in their life. Regular sunscreen usage reduces your risk of developing skin cancer and also helps minimize the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and age spots!

After a fun-filled day at the beach, I would head back to my vacation rental and get ready for the evening. My evening would start out with a glass of wine (or two), a platter of Spanish meats and cheeses (hey, I can at least pretend I’ve traveled outside of the state!) and good music while the sun sets over the ocean water. Afterwards, we would go to a local restaurant or perhaps grab some groceries from a local market and utilize the kitchen in our rental home. For some reason, it seems more fun to cook when it’s on vacation and not in your own kitchen!

Eating for healthy skin: Salmon salad or salmon with green sides is great way have a meal that is delicious and great for your skin. Salmon has omega-3 fatty acids in it which keeps your skin hydrated and glowing. It also has Vitamin D which will keep your teeth and bones strong. If you had sautéed kale with your salmon, you would be getting Vitamin K which will help reduce the dark circles under your eyes and tighten your skin.

The next day, we would be so excited to start off the day that we would just have to wake up early. The best way to start a day is by going to brunch, so we would look up an excellent brunch restaurant in the area. Then, we would head over to a local festival. New Jersey is great because they have quite a few festivals year-round, but especially in the summer. Some of the ones coming up are The Clifton Street Fair, Central Jersey Irish Festival, Children’s Festival (perfect for a family vacation), and Cape May’s Spring Festival!

After the festival, we would play tourist and see all of the popular sites around town. There are different attractions depending on which city you stay in, but according to Planetware, there are top 12 tourist attractions in New Jersey and some of them are Atlantic City and the boardwalk, Old Victorian Cape May, Thomas Edison National Historic Park, Grounds for Sculpture, and The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Another great option is in Clinton, New Jersey. There is a place called The Red Mill and it is by far one of the most photographed places in New Jersey for a good reason – it is gorgeous.

On the go beauty tip: Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Not only will drinking a lot of water keep your internal organs functioning properly, but it will keep your skin moisturized and glowing! If you took my tip about eating salmon, that will also help your skin stay hydrated. Make sure you also use moisturizer when you start your day.

There are so many ways to have an amazing staycation or vacation in New Jersey. If you’re looking to book your own NJ Staycation rental, Colleen Rennie is the broker and manager at Daniels Realty. She brings a wealth of information on real estate, negotiation and communication to help her clients get exactly what they want and need.
