2016 Best in Beauty

As you might imagine, as a beauty blogger there are a lot of different products that come across my desk during the course of a year – many sent by brands or their PR and several bought by myself. Several, I have shared as favorites here on the blog and even more I haven’t bothered to mention since if they don’t meet my standards, they’re likely not going to meet yours either. There are an even smaller number of products are the ones that I love. These are the ones that I will talk about passionately to anyone who will listen. The ones that I will replace, at my own expense, when they are empty. The ones that have a permanent spot in my beauty closet. Below are the products that are the best of the best I have tried during 2016.

1) Cover FX Perfect Pencil ($20) – With its micro-fine tip, this pencil is truly perfect at concealing even the smallest of imperfections, highlighting brows, lip lines and eye waterlines. This is crucial when trying to have your makeup look as natural as possible.

2) Curel Hydra Therapy Wet Skin Moisturizer ($10) – This post-shower moisturizer is a major game changer. Simply slather it on after turning on the shower, towel dry as usual and bask in your super hydrated and soft skin. My winter skin has never, even been so soft and smooth.

3) DECLEOR Aromessence Neroli Hydrating Night Balm ($42) – The driest of skin is no match for this balm. Just warm a small amount of the balm in your palms, apply to your face and wake up to glowing, well-hydrated skin.

4) Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer ($399) – Even though I only had a chance to use my new Supersonic once during 2016, I can emphatically state that it is one of the best beauty tools I have ever used. I too balked at the idea of a $400 blow dryer. But, I can state, with confidence, that it is worth it. Not only did it shave precious minutes off the time it takes for me to blow dry my hair, it does an incredible job of keeping my hair healthy and frizz-free.

5) jane iredale Lemongrass Love Hydration Spray ($30) – This magic spray refreshes, hydrates, protects and fights oiliness. Use alone to hydrate your skin or use it to add a bit of dewiness to your makeup. The best part is that the profits from each purchase go to Living Beyond Breast Cancer.

6) Leonor Greyl Masque Quintessence ($145) – Formulated for the most damaged and dehydrated locks, this mask performs miracles on split ends, damage due to coloring and other hair maladies; repairing and restoring hair to better than pre-treatment glory.

7) NARS Velvet Lip Glide ($26) – No need to decide between the easy-on glide of a lip gloss or the non-stickiness, pigment and rich color of a lipstick, Velvet Lip Glide does both.

8) Supergoop! Defense Refresh Setting Mist ($28) – As someone with darker skin, any product that makes the obligatory sunscreen easier, catches my attention. This multi-tasker combines SPF 50 with makeup setting and oil control. Plus, it feels amazingly refreshing on the skin.

Happy New Year! Cheers to even more outstanding beauty products in 2017!
