Ask the Expert: INFINI Skin Rejuvenating Treatment

If you are a regular reader of Ageist Beauty, you likely know that I am all about getting minimally invasive professional treatments to delay and/or minimize the appearance of the signs of aging. When I heard about INFINI treatments, I was curious. So, I went to one of my favorite cosmetic dermatologists, Yoon-Soo Cindy Bae, M.D., to get the low-down. Dr. Bae is the dermatologist that performed my Cellfina treatment and also a “friend in my head”.  Seriously, where else can you get expertly done treatments, catch up on your favorite shows and get Netflix recommendations.

In case you’re not familiar, INFINI is a skin-rejuvenating treatment that combines fractional radio frequency with microneedling to encourage new collagen growth and tighten the skin. The microneedling allows the radio frequency to treat the dermis, the layer below the top layers of skin.  INFINI treatments can significantly improve sagging skin, minimize wrinkling and also improve the appearance of scars.

Can INFINI be used on other parts of the body or just the face?

Absolutely, it can be used on the neck and décolletage.

What makes INFINI better than other laser anti-aging/ skin tightening treatments?

INFINI is remarkable as it can be safely and effectively used in patients with darker skin types or those with lighter skin who may happen to have a tan at the time of treatment.  Although having a tan is not recommended!

How quickly are results visible?

It depends on the skin condition being addressed; however, improvements can be seen within a few weeks of treatment.  Since collagen is being targeted, full results may take three to six months.

How many treatments are typically needed to achieve the desired results?

It depends on the indication being treated.  Typically multiple treatments at monthly intervals are recommended.

Is there any risk of hyper- or hypo-pigmentation for patients with skin of color?

There is always a risk of pigmentation changes with laser and light devices; however, due to the type of delivery of energy using INFINI (bypassing the epidermis), the risk is significantly lower.

What is the typical post-treatment recovery period?

It depends on the intensity of the treatment as well as what skin condition is being treated.  Some patients have redness as well as rough skin for a few days, which can sometimes last up to a week, depending on the indication and severity of the skin issue being addressed.

Are there any restrictions to activities recommended after the treatment?

I prefer that patients refrain from make up for 24 hours. Otherwise, no other restrictions.

Is there any post-treatment swelling and bruising?

Yes, there will be some swelling.  Patients taking blood thinners may be more vulnerable to post treatment bruising.

Does patient’s skin elasticity/firmness have an impact on whether a patient is a good candidate for the treatment?

Absolutely.  Just like any other laser, device, injectable, treatment, surgery, INFINI may not be a good treatment option if patients have very specific rejuvenation goals in mind.  Therefore, it is imperative that patients consult with their physicians prior to treatment so that a plan can be made for their overall aesthetic goals.

Is there an ideal candidate for INFINI?

No, everyone is a great candidate especially for rejuvenation purposes.

What is the average cost for the treatment?

It depends on the area treated.  Furthermore, there are differences in cost regionally.
