Project Black Dot: Protect Children with Year-Round Sunscreen

Sunscreen is the easiest way you can help to keep many of the visible signs of aging at bay. 90% of signs of aging are due to daily UV exposure. More importantly, sunscreen protects you from the harmful effects of the sun’s ultraviolet radiation.  1 in 5 Americans will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime. Given this sobering fact, it is astounding that sunscreen is seen as an over-the-counter medicine by schools in 47 out of 50 states and therefore its use is restricted. Parents must send in a signed permission slip to allow their children to carry and apply sunscreen during the school day.

Project Black Dot, an awareness campaign and education platform, was recently launched by the founder of sunscreen brand Supergoop! and tennis star, Maria Sharapova (a co-owner of Supergoop!). The goal of Project Black Dot is to raise awareness of the importance of using sunscreen year-round (not just during warm weather months) and educate parents on the US regulations around the use of sunscreen in schools.

Children are exposed to 3 times as much UV exposure than adults. Providing them with sunscreen for daily use while at school is an important start in protecting them from skin cancer. Visit the Project Black Dot website to learn more and fill out a permission slip to your child to be protected.
