Pumpkin – It’s Not Just for Eating Anymore

One of the reasons that fall is my favorite season is the pumpkin. I have a Pinterest board dedicated to my love of all things pumpkin and am steadily making my way through each delicious pumpkin recipe -much to the delight of my husband and daughter. This week, I made an amazing pumpkin bread which my daughter proclaimed was the best EVER and that she would be happy to showcase in the restaurant that she is planning to open (in about 13 years).

Beyond the deliciousness of pumpkin treats and espresso drinks, pumpkin is also great for your skin. It is rich in nutrients and vitamins including vitamin A (helps soothe skin) and vitamin C (fights free radicals and helps in the production of collagen – the support system for your skin). Pumpkin is also high in natural enzymes that help to dissolve old skin cells and promote the growth of new skin cells.

Below is a recipe for an easy and effective pumpkin face mask

  • 1/4 cup of organic pumpkin puree (plain pumpkin, not pumpkin pie mix)
  • 1/2 tsp. almond milk (you could probably use cow’s milk, soy milk, etc. but I use almond milk for everything!)
  • 1/2 or local honey
  1. Mix ingredients together until fully incorporated.
  2. Apply using your fingers to a clean face. Allow to stay on for 20 minutes.
  3. Rinse with warm water.
  4. Pat dry and apply moisturizer

The result is smooth, bright, refreshed (and delicious smelling) skin.
