Ask the Expert: Kitiya Mischo King, Founder, Mischo Beauty

The December edition of Ask the Expert features, Kitiya Mischo King, founder of Mischo Beauty, a new line of luxury, 5 FREE nail lacquers. She has a degree in chemistry and is a licensed cosmetologist, manicurist, esthetician and makeup artist.

What prompted you to start Mischo Beauty?

KK: My son inspired Mischo Beauty. When I was pregnant with him, I was more aware of the products I was using. Before being pregnant, my nails were always painted, but for the first six months of my pregnancy, I didn’t paint my nails because of all the toxins in the formulas. I tried a few formulas that were 4 FREE and some 5 FREE, but didn’t like how they went on, and they didn’t last. I decided I should create my own 5 FREE nail polish. I have a background in chemistry and cosmetology, so it was the perfect way to merge my two backgrounds.

As a chemist and cosmetologist what is one thing that readers might be surprised to know about most nail lacquers?

KK: A lot of nail polishes contain harmful toxins such as formaldehyde, camphor, DBP, toluene and formaldehyde resin, which have been linked to causing cancer, reproductive issues and birth defects. Some polishes are 3 FREE and 4 FREE – Mischo Luxury Nail Lacquers are 5 FREE meaning the lacquers do not contain these toxins.

What are your sources of inspiration for Mischo Beauty?

KK: For the launch collection, I drew inspiration from the fall fashion runways. I love the colors of fall, and decided to use those trending clothing colors in my lacquers.

Do you have plans to expand Mischo Beauty beyond nail lacquers?

KK: Yes! In fall 2014, we will launch color cosmetics including blush, lip gloss and lipstick.

What is your favorite fall/winter nail trend?

KK: I love the reverse French. I just can’t get enough of it.

What is the best way for “women of a certain age” to incorporate the latest nail trends without looking age inappropriate?

KK: I’m a fan of simple, chic nail art. Nails are meant to be fun, but I think for the workplace, no matter what age, keeping the nail art to a minimum is a safe bet. The reverse French is a great example.

What tips can you share for helping to extend the life of your manicure?

KK: Make sure the nails are clean and dry – no lotion! Prep the nails with Mischo base coat, followed by two coats of Mischo nail lacquer. Top it off with a coat of the Mischo top coat. Follow these steps and you should get at least a week out of your manicure!
