Ageist Beauty Out & About: Lucky Fashion & Beauty Blogger (FABB) Conference

The Lucky magazine Fashion and Beauty Blogger conference will always have a special place in heart. For it was the first Lucky FABB way in February 2011 that helped me crystallize my point of view for this blog. Although this was my fifth FABB, I still find something of value each time I attend – whether it be finding a way to better engage readers; networking with fellow bloggers; getting introduced or re-introduced to brands or just enjoying a little celeb sighting or two.

This iteration of FABB was no exception, we had an opportunity to hear from the delightful Eva Mendes, who just launched a collaboration with New York & Company. She seemed genuinely warm and down-to-earth as she rattled off the names of a few blogs that she enjoys, fashioned a headwrap around her head (sans mirror) and wrapped us all around her little finger, simultaneously.

The one-on-one discussion between Eva Chen and Kate Bosworth was equally engaging. I literally felt as if I was a fly on the wall as Kate openly shared personal experiences such as working with Oscar de la Renta on her wedding gown and how effortlessly she calls her husband by that moniker even though they are newlyweds.

In between sessions with the editors of such well-known blogs as Saucy Glossie, PS I Made This and Gabi Fresh, we had time to explore brands such as P&G Beauty (Olay, Pantene, Secret), Paige Denim, Lagos Jewelry, Fabletics, Julie Vos Jewelry and more.

Day 2 of FABB included breakout sessions including my favorite the Beauty Scoop session in which celebrity makeup artist, Jake Bailey, gave us tips for looking great on-camera, as well as in-person (sayonara pancake makeup that looks good on the boob tube, but makes you look crazy when walking down the street. May favorite tip was to mix 1/3 BB cream with 2/3 foundation. This enables you to have the coverage of foundation, but the luminosity of a BB cream – genius, right?

Another highlight from Day 2 was a lunch with Barbie. Michelle Chidoni, Barbie’s “Chief of Staff”, told us about the long history of Barbie as symbol of empowerment of girls. It was a great walk down memory lane as many of us shared Barbie tales from our youth.

Cheers to another successful FABB!
