Ageist Beauty Radar: French Beauty Wishlist

In a few weeks, I’ll be headed to my beloved Paris for a week of much-needed rest and rejuvenation. Of course, any trip to The City of Light (and in fact, any trip to Europe), calls for some uber-serious beauty shopping. For the unindoctrinated, in many European cities you can find the “prestige” brands – that are typically reserved for specialty beauty boutiques and high-end pharmacies here – in the local corner pharmacy (think Klorane, Phyto, Avene, Bioderma, etc.)  Below are some of my tried and true favorites on which I plan to stock-up, as well as some new products I must try. Of course, many of these products are available in the US at specialty stores or online, but I think it’s far more fun to look for one of those familiar green crosses (the symbol for a “pharmacie”) and see what beauty treasures lie within.

Guinot Dynamisant Anti-Fatigue Mask – The mask contains a combination of essential oils and Alpha Hydroxy Acids to exfoliate, tone, and restore tired, dull skin.

Latisse – This proven lash lengthener is sold over the counter in France. Not much to say, the opportunity to stock-up on Latisse without the pricey trip to a dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon’s office? Yes, please!

Homeoplasmine – A multi-tasker to beat all multi-taskers, Homeoplasmine’s good for dry skin, chapped lips, can be used as a pre-makeup primer, plus it’s mildly antiseptic and therefore can help eliminate acne and heal burns. It has a thick Vaseline-like consistency, but absorbs quickly and doesn’t have a greasy sheen.

Roge Cavailles Surgras Bath and Shower Gel – This herbal-scented ultra rich moisturizing bath and shower gel is soap-free, paraben-free, hypoallergenic, ultra rich and made for sensitive skin.

Vichy CelluDestock – Even though, we’ve been told that nothing can remove cellulite, this product promises to significantly reduce the appearance of it. CelluDestock uses 5% caffeine to visibly reduces the appearance of cellulite within 4 weeks.

Somatoline Cosmetic Intensive Night Slimming Treatment – This nighttime treatment uses a proprietary complex of sea salts, as well as clay, brown algaes and shea butter to reduce fat deposits in your waist, hips and thighs while you sleep. I’ll be bringing back two cases of this – minimum.

Lea Journo Revive Plum Oil – A simple combination of plum seed oil and vitamin E oil that is said to moisturize and rejuvenate even the driest of hair and skin.

Nivea BB Cream – As an obsessive buyer of BB creams, I will be hunting down every tone-appropriate BB (and CC) cream that I can find. New issues of the BBC Report will soon follow!

Biafine – My favorite miracle skin repairing cream. I use it on my daughter’s mild eczema, my post-waxing irritation, dry elbows, minor burns and everything in-between. Plus, it smells divine.

Do you have any favorite beauty shopping destinations or beauty products that you seek out when you travel?
