Backstage Beauty at Rachel Roy’s NYFW Fall 2012 Presentation

I barely made it to see the makeup being done backstage at the Rachel Roy presentation. I was too busy chatting and noshing with my fellow Lucky Style Collective bloggers and some of the Lucky editors in the fabulous Bon Appetite test kitchen. I arrived backstage with just enough time to see the last model or two being made up. I even left behind my Momofuku Cereal Milk and half-eaten Bagel Bomb. If you have ever had any of the treats from Momofuku Milk Bar, then you realize what a true travesty that was. Of course, I’m glad I made it in time to see the look being created by Bobbi Brown’s team. I even caught a glimpse of Bobbi herself (which made me scream (in my head, of course) like a 13 year-old girl seeing Justin Bieber).

The inspiration behind the Rachel Roy Fall ’12 collection was a documentary called “Women in the Dirt”. In the film, the women take natural elements like soil and moss and use them in urban settings in a very modern way. Bobbi Brown and Rachel Roy collaborated to translate this vision into the presentation makeup.  The skin looked flawless with minimal coverage. Cheeks were highlighted with light, pretty pink blush. The brows were natural and full without being too well-defined highlighting a rich, deep smokey eye. The lips were a nude/beige matte color in a creamy matte formulation that Bobbi Brown will be launching next season.

The hair, created by Ted Gibson, was very sleek, modern and deliberate with the models’ hair parted in the center, blow-dried and flat ironed stick straight. To finish off the edgy, architectural look the ends were bluntly cut.
