According to WWD, Ladurée , yes that Ladurée , purveyor of fantastically delectable macarons, is planning to launch a beauty line. I bet you’re having the same reaction I initially did – WTF? What do sweet treats have to do with cosmetics? Well, apparently Ladurée thinks the rainbow of fanciful colors that we see in their caramel fleur de sel, chocolat, framboise, pistachio and other flavors of macarons will translate into color palettes over which we will swoon.
The line, called The Wonders of Ladurée, will launch in Japan in February, followed by Europe and the US in the fall. The collection will include blush, liquid foundation and lip color.
With the recent influx of new entrants into the beauty game (e.g., Stella McCartney, DVF, Tom Ford, Karl Lagerfeld) feels like beauty is the new marketing (i.e., everyone thinks they can do it).
What do you think – the more the merrier or should these new entrants stay in their own lane?
