Product Review: Make Up For Ever Aqua Liners

I had heard a lot of buzz about Make Up For Ever Aqua Liners ($23) before coming face-to-face with them at The Makeup Show in New York City last month. They are one of the products that I mentioned in a previous post where you had to get a bit aggressive to be able to spend any time with the product. So, I sharpened my elbows (seriously!) and tested out all of the Aqua Liners before settling on two that I decided to take home and trial.

Aqua Liners are 100% waterproof, highly pigmented liquid eyeliner pens. They come in 15 different colors from matte to sparkly, with colors like Diamond Gold, Mat Mocha, Iridescent Electric Purple and Diamond Lagoon Green. I chose Iridescent Anthracite and Diamond Black Purple.

I have never been big on liquid eyeliners, I always felt that the line they created was too well-defined and edgy for the look I was trying to achieve. So, for years I have been wedded to my same brown pencil eyeliner (different brands, but same type of product). Also, to be quite honest I thought I didn’t have a steady enough hand to manage a liquid liner, especially a waterproof one.

I have been testing out the two Aqua Liners I bought for the past few weeks and I love them. For one, they are super easy to use. I just put a bit of primer or tinted moisturizer on my eyelids and then apply the liner. The tip of the Aqua Liner is very flexible and super fine, making it easy to create fine lines along your lash line. It can also be angled to create a retro winged-look.

True to its promise, the Aqua Liner did stay in place and maintain its vibrant color all day even through my workout. I did find that I have to be careful immediately after applying it (until it dries) to make sure the liner didn’t smudge onto my upper lid. But once it dries, it stays! As a bonus, the wide array of gorgeous colors is pushing me to step outside of my boring, brown eyeliner box!
